Single-Family House with Studio, Osobowice

The basic assumption was to fit two independent functions — a house and our studio — onto a small corner plot with a limited budget.

The basic assumption was to fit two independent functions — a house and our studio — onto a small corner plot with a limited budget. The adopted layout involved building an independent single-storey studio connected by a terrace to the residential building. We joined the two building volumes with a wooden fence, which divides the plot into 2 zones: a private south-eastern garden and a front section open to the west. The interior layout of the residential building is an open ground-floor plan built around a centrally located staircase.

The interior aesthetic, partly dictated by the budget, is based on using structural materials as elements that shape the interior, which is why interior plaster was omitted on the structural walls, exposing the precast floor slabs, lintels, and the timber roof structure. This resulted in a simple gable-roofed house that does not compete with its surroundings but instead becomes a backdrop and an organizing element for them. Thanks to its economical means of expression and restrained yet highly distinctive barn-like form, inspired by a neighboring cluster of buildings (unfortunately since demolished), it blends perfectly with the meadow landscape.
