Europan 7, Kristianstad — 1st PRIZE

One of our earliest projects was a competition entry for a residential development in Kristianstad, in southern Sweden.

One of our earliest projects was a competition entry for a residential development in Kristianstad, in southern Sweden. The building complex we proposed was scaled and arranged to fit its context — the through road and the railway line. We organized the buildings so that most of the 150 apartments face the quiet side of the internal gardens. The buildings are organized efficiently around stairwells at the corners between them, with partly glazed balconies marking off semi-private internal courtyards.

Urban coherence, noise protection, and an emphasis on ecological solutions all contributed to our success in becoming the first Polish team to win an award in this recurring international competition. The project won recognition from both the jury and the developer (the municipal company AB Kristianstadsbyggen). The municipal company ABK asked us to prepare a concept for a 7-story residential building continuing the competition concept. Based on our concept and the earlier competition entry, a local zoning plan was created for the entire Oxen block, designated 1290K-P05/14.
