Almark, Leszno

New life for an old hall.

Panorama of the Almark complex under a stormy sky at dusk — a hall with a metal-mesh facade, an illuminated glazed showroom with motorcycles visible, and the masonry section on the right.

New life for an old hall. A design for the renovation and extension of an existing retail-and-service building. The extension was kept within the dimensions of the existing gable roof. The repeating roof rhythm, with the same pitch and height throughout, divides the volume into smaller masses, and the use of a different material on each part emphasizes their individual identities.

Each of the new sections has a different function and is prepared for a different tenant. The existing section is masonry, the next is fully glazed, and the last uses expanded metal mesh on the steel hall’s facade, giving depth to the flat wall.

Daylight view of the expanded Almark building — a dark hall with bay doors, a middle section in perforated cladding, and a glazed corner connecting it to the existing masonry section. Side rendering of the Almark building complex on a sunny day — a warehouse hall, a glass showroom with motorcycles, and the old masonry section with a gabled roof in the background.
